Preparing for your holiday

Prepare for every eventuality

Preparation is key to a safe and happy holiday. Those of you who simply rely on a description within a brochure or provided by the travel company online are asking for trouble. Things can and do go wrong and some tour companies seek to limit their liability to you by extensive terms and conditions and by poor descriptions of the places you intend to visit. You need to do your homework and be aware of the problems peculiar to your destination. That’s where our advice pages can help.

Holiday Complaints

Holiday Advice - How do I deal with a hoteliers or tour operators response in Trip Advisor to my illness complaint?

We often talk to holidaymakers who having suffered poor conditions or illness at a hotel or on-board a cruise ship, place their comments on a Trip Advisor post.  Quite correctly, Trip Advisor allows those subject to a negative or positive review to also place their comments in response to a holidaymakers viewpoint,  The problem however arises when despite clear information that there may be som... Holiday Complaints

Holiday Advice - How do I deal with cruise, hotel, medical or tour operator 'help' for my holiday illness?

There are occasions when a situation may get out of hand at a holiday hotel or on-board a cruise ship, whereby many people are affected by illness.  In those circumstances, the situation often arises where holidaymakers are quite angry that they have been exposed to a bug and will often demand that the hotelier and the tour operator does something to end their exposure to sickness!  The respons... Holiday Advice - How do I deal with Holiday Illness Complaints when I come home?

As we can see from our helpline calls, Salmonella, Giardia, E-Coli, Norovirus, Serious Gastric and Ear Infections feature highly within the complaints we have received.  For many holidaymakers however, their complaints tend to be focussed upon the quality aspects of their claims, so for example, you can see that many of those complaints include, cockroaches, flies on food, sewage smells, cloudy... Holiday Advice - How do I deal with an illness at my Holiday Hotel or on a Cruise Ship?

Free Speech for Holidaymakers! When do we want it? Now!

article image

I was struck by the latest response by Trip Advisor, to the pressure that is being brought to bear on 'false' or inaccurate reviewing! This appears to have snow-balled from a Channel Four documentary - The Attack of the Trip Advisor! I have to say that words almost failed me after having seen this program; I am not sure what the program hoped to achieve by choosing to examine a very small part of the holiday reviews world. I feel that it is important to distinguish between the kind of complaints we hear of and those presented through this program. READ MORE 9 November 2011

And they say that Holiday Illness Claims are examples of a 'Compensation Culture' gone mad?

Yesterday we published our list of '40 Ridiculous & Appalling Holiday Complaints' for the 2011 holiday season to date!  There has been much criticism made of the 'holiday complaints' industry and how this is but part of the 'illness' that is running through our claims culture society.  I have never made it a secret; if a holidaymaker suffers with a poor holiday contract or they become ill t... Beware of Cheap Holidays = Recipes for Holiday Complaints!

I was attracted to a headline in the Daily Express this past week, which proclaimed, “Cheer Up, Holiday Packages Slashed”. The articles advises that ‘cash starved’ Britons could be facing the prospect of finding holidays abroad with anything up to 60% taken off the original holiday price! The author of the piece suggests that many holidaymakers are waiting until the last minute, when they could potentially enjoy discounts of between 10 & 30% off the brochure price!
