Travel Insurance Sales to Holidaymakers - A Case for Regulation - Report to HM The Treasury

This issue of Travel Insurance is very important to the Consumer, particularly where they suffer holiday problems.  Many holiday complaints involve reports of holiday illness/sickness, holiday accidents, changes to holidays, flight changes and poor customer service, and there are times when the presence of a Travel Insurance Policy is vital to the holidaymakers well-being!  HolidayTravelWatch has responded to The Treasury review of the sale of Travel Insurance, and whether the sale of this important financial product, should be brought into Regulatory control by the FSA.

HolidayTravelWatch has revisited its earlier submissions to The Treasury Select Committee, and has provided additional comment for consideration.

The Organisation recommends review of key features of the Travel Insurance product, such as a 'Standard Form Contract', a review of the use of 'force majeure' or other exclusion devices that may act to the 'detriment of the consumer', and a call that the OFT review the operation of the 'legal expense' clause within these contracts.

The Organisation also recommends that the sale of this product be Regulated, either through the FSA or through other methods, such as the model created for Claims Management Companies.
