As the work of HolidayTravelWatch becomes more widely known, so too does the range and type of holiday complaints that we receive.
The last few years has revealed knowledge of the deep suffering endured by holidaymakers at their chosen destination.
Such complaints reveal the under belly of crime and a lack of assistance offered by a resorts authorities or indeed by authorities when they return to the UK.
The contact we have received about crime in holidays tell of:
- Straight-forward theft;
- Street robbery;
- Racial attacks;
- Burglary of hotel rooms;
- Burglary whilst holidaymakers are asleep in their rooms;
- Robbery within a holiday complex;
- Assault by staff or an non-guest on private beaches;
- Sexual assault in a hotel by a member of staff;
- Sexual assault by a crew member on board a cruise ship;
- Death in suspicious circumstances.
We intend to highlight these issues to raise public awareness and will organise an annual event to bring pressure to bear upon local authorities, either in the UK or abroad on these difficult issues.
