Major public health scare change to holiday to Mexico - UK tour operator fails to offer Consumer Rights

Hi. Had a problem with [NAME OF TOUR OPERATOR] when we went to Las Vegas & Mexico in April to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday. Mexico leg was cancelled due to swine flu and they could not offer us a like for like alternative so we had to come home. They refunded £550 (apparently cost of all inc for 2 people 1 week in Mexico + transfers) out of a total cost of £2400 which means that we paid nearly double for a week in Vegas. I have written twice and they will not consider refunding any more. They told us US airlines dont fly from the US to the Caribbean which was not correct. All US holidays were room only and we couldnt afford the extra this would have cost. Is there anything I can do – grateful for any advice!
