Major facility failures found by UK holidaymaker for hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt pre-departure - requesting information about their significant change rights

I recently booked a holiday online with [NAME OF ONLINE TOUR OPERATOR] for 2 weeks in the [NAME OF HOTEL] in Sharm el Sheikh for November, shown as a 3 star hotel. This is for my wife’s birthday. I have since seen all the reports that the hotel is filthy (all reported by Brits), overrun with cockroaches (they’re even sitting on the food in the dining room!!), the pool is full of green stuff, reports of staff washing their feet in the drinking fountain!!, filling drinking water bottes from a dirty tap, food disgusting and inedible and apparently even the staff refuse to eat there!!! I could go on. Obviously, no-one wants to stay there so what can I do about it? We would be devastated to be put into a filthy hotel like this and my wife would be heartbroken. I understand that some people complain about lots of things, but this takes the biscuit! Surely the holiday company should change the hotel for us. Can we insist upon it, as surely they cannot expect anybody to put up with such f ilth. Is there any way we could cancel the holiday, without paying exorbitant charges?
