Our daughter ’signed up’ for a school hockey tour to Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka costing over £2000. the deposit and some subsequent payments were made to the school which then altered the programme to go to Dubai instead of Sri Lanka. This was not done by the tour firm. No hockey is going to be played in Dubai and the overall cost will be several hundred pounds more. Due to these significant changes, our daughter felt the tour was no longer attractive. We withdrew her specifically because of the programme chnges ie. deciding to go to a completely different country without consulting parents!. The school agreed to return the majority of the payments “as a gesture of goodwill” but have retained the deposit. We maintain that such significant changes represent a breach of contract ( as defined in the ABTA code of conduct) and as such the deposit should be returned.
Major change of destination pre-departure and a failure by UK tour operator to provide full significant change rights!Last updated 14 January 2010
