Failure by UK tour operator to pay for hotel accommodation

Booked with [NAME OF ONLINE TOUR OPERATOR] to holiday in Gran Canaria in May 2009, Flight ok with Globespan but accomodati on lost as it had,nt been paid for by [NAME OF ONLINE TOUR OPERATOR via [ONLINE ACCOMMODATION PROVIDER], we had to pay another £200 per apartment to re-book same rooms Abta,Atol say they have no contractual reference so we can not reclaim this money but we have a booking reference from [NAME OF ONLINE TOUR OPERATOR] there was approx 50 in the party.   Please advise.
